From June 1, 1793 , the English vessels blocked communications by sea .
On July 11, 1793, the English army was under the walls of Pondicherry . The powers of the commissioner are transferred to an English commander dependent on Madras . Mottet and his family choose to stay in Pondicherry , fearing to be victims of the Terror in France .
