On September 15th, Johnson, in the Weymouth, having the Winchester and Dursley Galley in company, heard that there were two Spanish men-of-war and a large merchantman lying in Rivadeo. Accordingly the Weymouth and Winchester appeared off the port on the following day; boats were sent in to take soundings; and the two ships anchored alongside the enemy and abreast of a battery of eight guns. The battery was taken, the men-of-war were destroyed, and the merchantman was brought off.
