The Phoenix, 36, Captain Lawrence William Halsted, Pomone, 40, Captain Edward Leveson Gower, and Pearl, 32, Captain Samuel James Ballard, while cruising on the west side of Elba, fell in with the remaining frigate, the Carrere, which was on her passage from Porto Ercole to Porto Longone with three hundred barrels of powder; and the Pomone, after an action of ten minutes, took her. The Pomone's loss was only two killed and four wounded. The Carrere is said to have lost much more heavily. Unfortunately, the whole of a small convoy which she had with her escaped.
