Notes on Action

DescriptionTRN5
On November 11th, the Franchise, 36, Captain Charles Dashwood, Aurora, 28, Daedalus, 32, Reindeer, 16, and Pert, 14, seized the harbour of Samana in San Domingo without opposition, just before the batteries which the French were erecting had been completed. The move was important, as it secured British shipping from the attacks of the privateers, who had always made that place a principal base.
