9.8.1673 Court Martial : Report of Court Martial held on board the Bezan yacht into the loss of the Algiers on 17th of July. Presided over by Captain Anthony Young and attended by Captains Richard Minors, Christopher Mason, George Watson, William Faisbey, Thomas Lovell and Richard Day. The Court heard the affidavits which had previously been taken by Richard Gibson, Judge Advocate, and concluded the loss was principally due to the lack of a Pilot, by negligence on the part of Captain Thomas Knevitt and her Master Richard Kingstone. Captain Knevitt was sentenced to a year's imprisonment and Richard Kingstone to six months and both to loss of pay. George First, Ordinary Seaman aged about 38 defended himself from the charge of running away by saying he was a volunteer and could not swim. The Court sentenced him to forfeit his pay and to be ducked 3 times at the mainyard of the Phoenix and to remain as one of her company.ADM 106
