Portsmouth, 23 May 1801: On Thursday a Court Martial was held on board His Majesty’s ship Gladiator, in this harbour, on Capt Robert Philpot, of the Prompte, for suffering William Oates, a man supposed to belong to the Hermoine, to escape from his ship.
Rear-Admiral Holloway, President. M Greetham, Judge Advocate
The Court agreed that the charge had been proved, and adjudged him to be reprimanded. [Hampshire Telegraph, 25 May 1801]
