Admiralty records may show an officer as still being in command as the news of an officers death would take time to reach London, and until a new officer was confirmed by the Admiralty he could only hold the post on the temporary basis on the instructions of the senior officer present.

This page states that Henry Raye was Captain of the 'Brave' from 1811 to 1813.

Henry Raye died on 18 Oct 1812.
