Captain Edward Wheeler was also appointed as Regulating Captain in Newcastle between March and June 1755, holding his Rendezvous at the Sun on the Quay. He was strongly supported by the Mayor and magistracy, as the city corporation offered volunteers a further 20s bounty above the £3 offered by the Crown, but was not so warmly welcomed by those liable to impressment into naval service.
