1808 Grivel was attached , in 1808 , as a captain , to the battalion of marine guards of the Dupont division; he was taken prisoner at the battle of Bailén , Spain and taken to the vicinity of the bay of Cadiz , on board a pontoon , from which he managed to escape with rare audacity . After having watched for a long time the paces and habits of the ship Argonaute , responsible for supplying water to the various pontoons , he succeeded in removing this ship from its crew in the month of February 1810 , hastily embarked all his companions on it . captivit y, and comes to take wind north of Fort Sainte-Catherine , after having been vainly pursued by a crowd of boats which strafed them for more than two leagues .This act of courage brings him back to the head of his company of sailors of the guard ; and having received the order to cross in front of the bay of Cadiz during the siege of this city , he seized several vssels , and was charged , in the battle of Sainte-Marie , with the command of the vanguard of the flotilla under the orders of Captain de Saizieu .FWIKI
