This entry confuses two brothers.
The elder brother, Louis-Phillipe de Rigaud de Vaudreuil (1724-1802), Marquis de Vaudreuil, commanded Le Fendant, 74, then became Chef d'Escadre aboard Le Triomphant, sailing out to the West Indies in time for the Battle of the Saintes, taking overall command of the fleet when De Grasse was captured.
His younger brother, Jean-Louis de Rigaud de Vaudreuil (1728-1810), Comte de Vaudreuil, commanded Le Sceptre, 74, through De Grasse's series of actions off Fort Royal, at the Chesapeake, at St. Kitts and at the Saintes.
