Further to the above, Adam Hayes participated in the circumnavigation of the world under Lord Anson, 18 September 1740 to 15 June 1744. The UK National Archives catalogue reveals that he was Master Shipwright at Gibraltar from 1745 to 1749, then Assistant Master Shipwright and later Master Shipwright at Plymouth until about 1751.

Adam Hayes was born in 1710, baptized at St Botolph without Aldgate, London, on 19 November 1710, the son of Adam Hayes and Sarah Urmstone. Of particular interest is that Adam Hayes was responsible, in 1768 for the fitting out of HMS "Endeavour" for exploration under the command of Lieutenant James Cook which led to the discovery of the eastern coast of Australia. Plans held at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, Kent, for the "Endeavour" 1768, record "a purchased collier, taken off and fitted as a ship-rigged bark for exploration. Signed by Adam Hayes [Master Shipwright, 1755-1785 (died)]"
