There is a fine c.1835-40 marble wall monument to the Frodshams in St Paul's church, Broadwell, Gloucestershire, where they are buried (his wife's family having a prior connection there). It is signed by J[?]. Keyes & Son, Bath and inscribed: SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF JOHN FRODSHAM ESQR. POST CAPTAIN IN THE ROYAL NAVY, / IN WHOM UNAFFECTED ELEGANCE OF MANNERS POLITE LEARNING UNIVERSAL BENEVOLENCE, / AND TRUE PIETY WERE HAPPILY UNITED WITH BRAVERY OFTEN TRIED IN THE SERVICE OF HIS COUNTRY, / HE DIED MAY 28TH 1791, AGED 54.

ALSO TO THE MEMORY OF ANNE HIS WIDOW, WHO DIED OCTR. 16TH. 1830, AGED 79 / SHE WAS THE DAUGHTER OF THE REVD. PETER LEIGH OF LYMN [sic, Lyme] IN THE COUNTY OF CHESTER, / THE REMAINS OF BOTH REST IN A VAULT IN THIS CHURCH IN FULFILMENT OF THE INTENTION / OF THEIR BELOVED MOTHER, WHO WAS THE MOST KIND AND TENDER OF PARENTS, / THIS TABLET WAS ERECTED BY HER TWO DAUGHTERS, / THE YOUNGEST OF WHOM EMMA, DIED AT BATH APRIL 5TH. 1834, /AND WAS BURIED AT BOX IN THE COUNTY OF WILTS.

There is also a pair of oil portraits of Frodsham and his wife (by Thomas Hazlehurst) in the National Library of Australia: his is ref 1900358, hers 1870005, both originally standard 30 x 25 in. on canvas, but now backed onto fibreboard, and dated c.1782

John Frodsham was born in 1735, he was baptised 4 March 1735 at Rostherne, Cheshire. His parents were the vicar of that parish, Rev Robert Frodsham and his wife, Catherine or Katherine Leigh. The Frodshams, this part, were very respectable and Anne Leigh was of illustrious family. Her father, the Rev Peter Leigh was of the High Legh branch, titles. He was vicar of Lymm, Cheshire. John Frodsham's older brother was Bridge Frodsham (Bridge being their grandmother's surname) who scandalised his father by running away from school, twice, and becoming an actor. Bridge was my 5 x great grandfather. John and Anne had 2 daughters. Anne died in October 1830 at Somerset House, the Naval Offices, and was buried at Broadwell, Gloucestershire on 29 October 1830. I hope this is of interest.

Obit: At Mrs. Leigh's at Broadwell, co. Gloucester, Captain John Frodsham, of the Royal Navy, he was 38 years in the service, had been in seven actions, and experienced all the dangerous and trying vicissitudes incident to his profession, without the good fortune of acquiring any advantage in return. He was promoted from the rank of Lieutenant by Admiral Byron, in approbation of his conduct in negotiating with Compte d'Estain, when employed on a flag of truce; and to the rank of Post Captain by Admiral Kepple for his signal and memorable action with the LaFee, a French frigate of 36 guns, to which he gallantly opposed the Alligator a sloop of 14 guns. for an hour and three quarters till his vessel was reduced to a wreck. He married Miss Anne Leigh, second daughter of Rev. Peter L. of Lyme, in Cheshire.
