Hello,
I am a descendant of the corsair, Jean Baptiste Antoine Candeau. In relation to the uncertainty about the Sully, I would like share with you that it was his father, also named Jean Baptiste Candau (but without the e in the surname at the time) who commanded the Sully. Jean Baptiste père died in Port-au-Prince in 1784 after his last journey on the Usbek. His teenage son was definitely on the Usbek as a writer but I do not know if at 10, he was on the Sully at all. I hope this clears the confusion. There were in fact two Jean-Baptiste.
Regards,
Laura Rahme
