| 7.9.1743 | Captain Edmund Horne, the Serpent sloop, Southampton. John Walter, his Surgeon, is in sick quarters here having broken his arm and being badly bruised, when he fell in the dock, at Portsmouth, whilst going to help a member of the crew who had suffered the same accident. When his ship returned from Guernsey he ordered Mr. Walter to return to the ship but his arm is weak, he is in pain, needs crutches to stand and is unable to resume his duties.
