London, 16 March 1802: We are happy to announce the safe arrival in the Downs of the ship Betsy, Captain Charles Hooper, from Bengal, which Presidency she left early in September last. The Betsey is one of those ships which were licensed by the Honourable East India Company last year to proceed to Bengal for rice, and is the fourteenth ship which has arrived this year with grain. Letters have been received by this ship dated the 31st of August, which state that the Government had extended the permission to load rice for Europe till the month of October, in consequence of the great rise of the rivers, the result of heavy rains, which impede the cargoes being completed within the prescribed period.
