London, 28 October 1765: By advices just received from Batavia, we learn, that Capt Godfrey, of the Richmond India ship, which was there in April last, is dead; and that Capt Legeit, who succeeded to the command, likewise died there on the 29th of April; since which the command of the said ship is devolved on Mr Hindman, who went out as Second Mate. The Duke of Gloucester, Capt Burdett, the Earl of Elgin, Capt Cook, and the Earl of Middlesex, Capt Fletcher, were all there at the same time. The two first, together with the Richmond, were bound for China, but had lost their passage. The last had troops on board from Manilla for Madras. [Exeter Evening Post, 7 November 1765]
