His 2d & 3d commissions as Lieutenant were confirmed prior to his original commission.

[1] 10 July 1778, commissioned by VAdm'l Lord Howe in America as Lieut., Strombolo, Fireship & confirmed by Admiralty on 07 July 1784 (ADM 6/23, p. 229);

[2] 30 May 1779, commissioned by Commodore Sir George Collier in America as Lieut., Galatea, and
[3] 01 Oct 1781, commissioned by RAdm'l Thomas Graves in America as 1st Lieut., Prudent. Both [2] & [3] were confirmed by Admiralty on 13 Apr 1782 (ADM 6/22, p. 450)
