26.5.1762 John Clevland. Captain Hugh Dalrymple has asked to be paid for the time he commanded the Postillion before he was appointed to her. He was borne for victuals only from September to December 1759 and Captain Griffith has been paid on the books for that time. Captain Dalrymple was then entered her proper Captain and was superceeded in his proper ship the Medway. Opine he should be paid by bill from the time of his discharge from the Buss to his entry for wages in the PostillionADM354

No! I think you will find a simple google search will identify the commander of Fort Johnstone as John, not Hugh.

It is possible that Hugh Dalrymple was commanding Fort Johnston in North Carolina during the gap of sea appointments above between Arundel Feb 1764 and Emerald April 1771. 'Captain Dalrymple' is quoted in many documents as the commander of Fort Johnston during this period.
