Firstly, 1779 is during the American Revolution not the Napoleonic wars, and this is not your relative. He would have been about 3 in 1779 and died in 1814.

My ancestor Thomas Leigh of Kendal UK was taken prisoner in France at Sannur in 1779 to 1781 Napoleonic War. He died 1820. Buried at Holy Trinity Kendal. Son James 1784 to 1855 my connection. Thomas married Elizabeth Talfor in 1768 at Bewcastle, Cumberland and had about 8 children. Talfor mother a Hodgson probably from Dent or Sedburgh.
