Not two separate ships but two sources reporting the same event. Common as the naval day started at Noon and the civil day at midnight. Do the afteroon on the 22nd (civil) is the afternoon of the 23rd (naval). You would need to know the sources sources and what calendar type they were using to know which is which.

Are there really 2 Zephyrs captured 1 day apart by the Fame? Ref TRN vol 4 does not list a Zephyr as a French royal vessel captured, implying a merchant or letter of Marque as reflected on 25.8.1780. She was burnt after capture according to TRN vol 4 and J. J. Colledge, Ships of the Royal Navy.
