Captain Brett , in his Majesty's Ship the Lion , being on his Way from Portsmouth to Plymouth on the 29th of June, abotit Ten in the Morning, about 7 leagues to the Southward of the Isle of Wight, saw a small French Frigate directly to windward of him, attacking a Merchant Ship bound up the Channel, to which he immediately gave chace came up with and took her , and has sent her into Portsmouth ; she had 115 men , mounted ten carriage and seven swivel guns and is the same which lately took the "Mediator Sloop". She belongs to Havre de Grace , and had been but 5 days at sea .
