Ok. Let's see what we know:
A bell.
1771
San Dimas

If it is from a church it will be very difficult to locate it. Maybe ask the museum for information.

If it is a ship it could be a merchant, a corsair or some other type of ship I will continue looking but it will not be fast. If I know something I will put it in the ship's file and leave a comment to let you know.

Andrew N the bell is a complete mystery, a clocktower with chiming bell was built in 1782-1784, the bell came via the clock maker. There is no information on the bell.

The bell is located at the Cromarty Courthouse Museum in Scotland. If you Google Cromarty Courthouse Bell you should be able to see a photograph of the bell. I personally agree that if Xebec San Dimas was built in 1783 at Palma and finished at Cartagena in 1783, it cannot be from the vessel. The bell must be a church bell as there is a faint cross on the outer body of the bell. Is San Dimas a church, what is caracka? The bell clapped (although it could have been replaced) does not look like a ships bell one

It seems strange but I am waiting for more data. If it is a town or a church they will surely have a record of the bell.

I think it highly unlikely that a bell dated 12 years earlier than the ship, and from a different place has any link to the vessel at all.

I am going to update the San Dimas data but I don't see anything about the bell. Give me more information! Population? Church? Place where the bell is?

I am researching a bell that is currently in use as part of an 18th century clocktower clock. The bell is rung every hour on the hour. The inscription on the bell is:

San Dimas Carraca ano d 1771

Could it be related to the Xebec sixth rate San Dimas, built in 1783 at Palma? Could the reference to Carraca mean the bell was created there? Any help gratefully received!
