London, 25 February 1802: We have received a letter from the island of Saint Helena by the ship Minerva, dated the 6th of January, which informs us that the Honourable East India Company’s ship, the Lord Thurlow, Captain John Dale, from Fort St George, arrived at that island on the 1st of January, in company with the Georgiana packet, Captain Henry Leigh, from the Presidency of Bengal; and the Medway, a ship from Bengal privately freighted. The above ships were to sail from Saint Helena on the 11th of January, and may be expected to arrive in a few days. The Exeter, Captain Mackintosh, a country ship from Bengal, parted with the Minerva on the 31st of January. [The Morning Chronicle, 25 February 1802] 3D

London, 5 March 1801: Yesterday a Court of Directors was held at the East India House, when the following commanders took leave, previous to departing for their respective destinations: Capt Thomas Wall, of the Duke of Buccleugh, for China; Capt John Wordsworth, jun, of the Abergavenny, for ditto; Capt George Gooch, of the Sir Stephen Lushington, for Madras and Bengal; and Capt John Dale, of the Lord Thurlow, for ditto.
