The following melancholy accident happened at Deptford yesterday se’nnight:- As Captain Andrew Christie, of the Navy; Captain Bruce Mitchell, of the Marquis Wellesley, East Indiaman; Mr Anderson, chief mate; and Mr John Bruce, surgeon of the above ship, were returning on shore from the ship, the wherry got athwart the hawse of a lighter, and immediately upset, by which unfortunate accident Captain Christie and Mr John Bruce were drowned. The bodies of the sufferers were found on the following morning. [Portsmouth Telegraph, 27 July 1801]

Portsmouth, 13 June 1801: On Wednesday the Purser of the Lord Nelson announced the arrival of the following China ships off this port, under the convoy of the Argo, of 44 guns, Capt Bowen: - the Cirencester, Ceres, Brunswick, Arniston, Walthamstow, Earl St Vincent, Marquis Wellesley, Canton, Lord Nelson, Carron (extra ship), Triumphoze (Portuguese). They left China 16th January, arrived at St Helena 15th April, sailed from thence 22d April. The whole of the convoy are arrived at Deal. [Hampshire Telegraph, 15 June 1801]
