Portsmouth 15 June 1816: On Thursday the Emulous sloop of war, Capt Jackson (acting) arrived from the Jamaica station. The Jamaica papers state, that the Comet, commanded by the noted pirate Mitchell, which was seized by the American frigate Borer, when going into the Mississippi, had on board 100,000 dollars and other valuables, which were plundered from the inhabitants that fled from Carthagena, at its capture by the Royal Spanish Army. The Emulous has brought 200,000 dollars, merchants’ property. She is to be paid off at Deptford. [Hampshire Telegraph, 17 June 1816]
