Lieutenant Robert Belbin has been appointed Commander of the Trident following the removal of her Captain and his confinement in the BREDAH. Belbin is to be paid for his time in the Trident as her Captain.
ADM/ACopy judgment of a Court Martial held on 10 May, 1698 on board the Humber at Spithead, Captain Henry Haughton, Commander in Chief of ships at Spithead and Portsmouth, President, and 26 named officers, to enquire into the death of Daniel Whittle of the Lincoln of which Lieutenant William Toms is accused by excessive beating in July, 1697 near Port Royal, Jamaica. As Daniel Whittle had died of a fever, Lieutenant Toms was acquitted.
Also enquiry was made into a complaint brought by Lieutenant Robert Belbin, in command of the Trident Prize, against Beverly Latham, carpenter of that ship, for being often absent without leave and disobedience, Beverly Latham was found guilty and dismissed his ship.
