Chatham, 28 February 1772: Wednesday last his Majesty’s ship Liverpool, of 32 guns, Capt Braithwait, arrived here from the Streights in order to be paid off.
Orders have been received here from the Lords of the Admiralty for his Majesty’s ship Ramilies, of 74 guns, and Augusta, of 64 guns, to be taken immediately into dock, in order to undergo a thorough repair. His Majesty’s ship Medway, of 60 guns, which has been under a thorough repair, will be ready to go our of dock, some time in next moth. [Kentish Gazette, 29 February 1772]

Cadiz, 17 January 1772: The English man of war the Liverpool, from Gibraltar, put into this place the 11th inst. As soon as she had dropt anchor in the Bay, an Aide Major of the place, the Notary, the Interpreter, and other officers of the commission of health, went on board, and told the Captain the orders of the Court were not to admit any foreign ship of war, except in cases of the most urgent necessity. The Captain answered, that he wanted no assistance, that he was come from Gibraltar, and was going to England; they told him he was to perform a quarantine of 10 days, which was the time fixed, for all vessels from Gibraltar, but the Captain proceeded on his voyage without paying any regard to the quarantine required. Never mind my previous post. I was mistaking Privateer Liverpool for the HMS Liverpool, which wrecked on Long Island. As far as I can tell, Privateer Liverpool never shipwrecked. My bad!

In the last half of 1780, my 4xGreat Grandfather, Thomas Tart, Sr, served on the American privateer Jay -- which was formerly the Liverpool -- under the command of Captains John Douglass and Herman Coulter. On his only privateer voyage, the Jay sailed to St Eustatius, capturing a British merchant ship while en route. Question: how was the Liverpool salvaged from Long Island and converted to the Jay in two years, with the British "owning" NYC and its harbor?

I am building a model of Liverpool. I have the admiralty plans but I could not locate anything about the figurehead or other decoration. Any thoughts on where I might research this?
