Anecdotes about various members of the crew of the Nimrod c. 1817-1818 in ms. diary of Anne Fraser, then a schoolgirl in Cromarty. 'Doctor Hector', Mr Gorston (from Shetland), Mr Hannah, a midshipman. 'Doctor Hector was engaged to be married to Miss McLean an American lady, and left the Nimrod to go and be married—on his arrival at Quebeck he found his fair one had given her hand to another, he instantly quited America to return to Scotland and was unfortunately drowned as the ship was wrecked. He was a great loss to us as was a sincere & kind friend. The faithless fair one went mad when she heard of his dreadful end. Mr Gorston now lives in Zetland he has retired from the perils of a sailors life and lives happily with his cousin Miss Nicholson for his wife.'

The Nimrod under Commander Charles Nelson seized the American schooner Vulture on 4th October 1821. The London Gazette for 12th November 1822 notes that the account of sales will be deposited in the High Court of Admiralty on 18th January 1823. I have a certificate signed by Nelson confirming the entitlement of George Perth, Able Sailmaker, to a share of the prize money - though some mean-minded Admiralty civil-servant later counter-signed this on the back 'no prize money due'.
