Portsmouth, 20 April 1816: Ferdinand VII has transmitted an edict to the Spanish authorities at Vera Cruz, prohibiting any foreign power from purchasing specie. In consequence Charles Parke, Esq, of the Treasury, who sailed from hence about twelve months since, in the Sabine sloop of war, for the purpose of buying up bullion for this country, was preparing to leave the settlement. The Spanish frigate Sabina, with 4,000,000 of specie, had lately sailed for Cadiz. [Hampshire Telegraph, 22 April 1816]
