Portsmouth, 10 February 1816: The following ships were broke up and sold out of the service last month:- Aeolus, Etna, Alkmaar, Canso, Censor, Constant, Dexterous, Ernest, Freya, Genereux, Haughty, Hearty, Kingfisher, Lightning, Meteor, Nymphen, Paulina, Piedmontaise, Porcupine, Quail, Raven, Rota, Sabrina, Sheldrake, Sparrow, Suffolk, Tisiphone, Vengeance, Vesta, Virago, and Wizard. On Tuesday last arrived in Leith Roads, his Majesty’s fire-ship Tisiphone, Captain Wallis, belonging to Admiral Duncan’s fleet. On the Sunday preceding, off Flamborough Head, she came up with a French national corvette of 18 guns, nine-pounders, with which she kept up a running fight for 26 hours, from thence to the mouth of the Frith, (a run of 40 leagues,) when the Frenchman struck, but unfortunately the Tisiphone’s fore-yard gave way, and being otherwise much disabled, she was prevented from taking possession of her prize. The Tisiphone mounts 14 six-pounders. She had three men killed, and the boatswain, three petty officers, and three seamen, wounded. It is reported that the privateer is since taken. From expirience and my research that ships sold for £8090 or more were later converted into a merchant vessels.
Tisiphone was actioned on 14.12.1815 at Deptford.
