Portsmouth, 25 November 1815: In the Vice-Admiralty Court last week, a case of considerable expectation and importance was decided. It was a claim made by the officers and crew of his Majesty’s frigate Salsette, for salvage on the ship Cornwallis, of Calcutta, which had been dismasted in a severe gale of wind, and was brought into Trincomalee, by the Salsette. The Court, considering the exertions of the salvors to deserve very liberal remuneration, awarded seven and a half per cent upon the value of the ship, cargo, and freight, which are estimated at upwards of £90,000 sterling. [Hampshire Chronicle, 27 November 1815]
