Foreman of the Yard, Halifax Dockyard - Halifax - British


Also known as "Foreman of the Shipwrights".

Third in importance, after the master shipbuilder and his assitants. In 1696 the number at each yard was fixed at 4 at Portsmouth and Chatham and 3 at each of the others. They were appointed one to supervise the caulkers, one to "Work Afloat" and the others to "Old Work".
