Action off Tolu

10th March 1724

After the arrival of the galleons in Cartagena de Indias in February 1724, Governor Castelfuerte ordered the unloading of goods and their immediate departure to eliminate Dutch smuggling on the coast.
In March, in the vicinity of Tolu, the Spanish fleet located 6 Dutch frigates and began their pursuit.

Outcomeref:1936

After a wild chase, two Dutch frigates manage to escape but the Catalan, unable to keep up, is left behind.

The Dutch commander initiates a retreating battle between his four frigates and the Estrella de Mar and the Pingüe Volante.

After four hours, the Pingüe Volante manages to take the Catalina while the rest of the Dutch fleet manages to flee.
