San Feliu de Guixols

27th July 1285 (1285/08/05 NS) - 28th July 1285 (1285/08/06 NS)

After stalking the numerically superior French fleet, the Catalan admirals Mallol and Marquet obtained permission to engage it.

Notes on Action

Descriptionref:1941

27 July

The French admiral forms a crescent shape confident of his numerical superiority. The Catalans form two columns that attack the French centre.

The Catalan efficiency was such that before the siege was closed, they had already captured 7 French galleys, including the admiral's, who was taken prisoner.

After a brief attempt to recapture the admiral, the French wings retreated to the north.

On 28 July

A new French fleet, even larger than the previous one, overtook the Catalan fleet, which retreated towards Barcelona. The Catalans were forced to abandon their captures and retreated without further incident towards the port.

Catalan losses are minimal with only 39 dead in total, French losses are unknown but were undoubtedly much higher.
