On September 14th, at 8 A.M., the Immortalite, 36, Captain Edward William Campbell Rich Owen, Perseus, bomb, Commander John Melhuish, and Explosion, bomb, Commander Robert Paul, ventured to bombard the Dieppe batteries and seventeen vessels, chiefly building, that lay in the port. They continued the fire until about 11.30 A.M., setting fire to the town in three places; and then, proceeding to St. Valery-en-Caux, where six other vessels were constructing, and off which place they arrived at 3 P.M., threw shells into the place for an hour. It is doubtful whether very much damage was done, but Captain Owen's loss was slight one missing and five wounded.
