Hi Jane, I do have further info on Captain William, possibly tracing him back to about 1595 in Leics/Beds. He was certainly enrolled in the Honourable Artillery Company where he probably learnt gunnery. He probably held the Pestell Coat of Arms which he sent to the Rev William Pestell for safe keeping during the English civil war. Try e-mailing me directly, Ken.

For Larry:- My info is that William Pestell was master of the Jersey in the fleet commanded by Admiral Robert Holmes which took the island of Goree from the Dutch in 1664. WP died in action. His wife was later awarded a £50 pension.
I have no knowledge of the flyboat Falcon - sorry.

I have been researching Capt.William Pestell for some years and have a fair amount of info on his career from his birth c.1606 to his death in action in 1664 in the attack on the Dutch fort at Goree, off Senegal. I would be pleased to share info with others with genuine interest.
