I also believe william scott was my ancestor,my great grandfather William Henry scott was a mystery man, did not disclose anything about his family. Apparently he was born in India. Willaim Scott's family fits in with all the information from present family

There is a book being published this Autumn "ROYAL NAVY OFFICERS OF THE SEVEN YEARS WAR" by Helion & Co. which has details of his RN service not shown on this site, but has, unfortunately, no family or personal details, I couldn't find them.

Hi. We believe that this William Scott was our ancestor as we know that he served in the RN with dates that fit this fellow. Could you please direct me to any source which would give me any personal information about this William at all? Our William was born 1729-31, place unknown, but we know that he lived at Portsea, Hampshire from 1763 onwards with his death at his daughter's in Looe, Cornwall in 1808. Three of his sons were sponsored by the Duke of York in to the RN, one of which froze to death in the incident at Sandy Hook in 1783, and the other drowning at sea on the 'Courageous' in 1796. Our William remained friends with the Duke all of his life and also he was great friends of Sholto Charles Douglas of Scottish Royalty. He was that outraged about the choice of wife his son had made that he deliberately set out to conceal every piece of evidence about his heritage and his past...even to his wife, that we just cannot find any true trace of this man. Unfortunately, there is not one living Scott male to use in dna identification. We have been searching for William's story for 7 years now, and apart from knowing that he had a naval/military background, we know very little about this man except that he was probably from a substantial lineage and was well connected.
