Rear Admiral of the Blue, Charles Sotheby (1782-1854), achieved flag rank 20 Mar 1848. Entered Royal Naval Academy 5 Sep 1795, embarked Alexander 74 31 Mar 1798, as midshipman and present at the Battle of the Nile, at the capture of Le Genereux 74 and Ville de Marseilles. Confirmed as Lt in the Penelope 36 by commission 25 Jan 1802, then Pilot as noted. After Slaney 22 and Tamar appointed to Seringapatam 46 in 18 May 1824 [O'Byrne 1849 Naval Biographical Dictionary]
