This man is referenced in several places on the newfoundland grand banks genealogy site ngb dot chebucto dot org as being there on the Otter (1752, 1754). ref Ferryland District Colonial records."1700's to 1800's early" Part 2 (K - Z)

A search through the Burney C17 and C18 newspapers shows Edward Le Cras on the Kent, Temeraire, and Somerset at the dates shown above; then the Russell (1777); then as a commissioner; and then likely to become an admiral (1787). There is no reference to a knighthood, and he is recorded as dying in Rathbone Place in 1793, not Bishop's Teignton in 1784. It is just possible there were two naval officers of this name.
