in 1592 Sir Robert Crosse was Captain of the Providence (Camden, Annals) later corrected to the Foresight. He was responsible for laying his ship across a Portuguese Carrack, The Mother of God. 165' long and seven decks with a 600 man crew. Her cargo was valued at £140,000.00.0 for prize purposes. 10 ships with 2,595 combined tonnage and 1,057 men took her.
