Don't know what you did Albert, but James Kirk (c.1721-1787) is most certainly listed. Try leaving the date out, that can sometimes cause issues when the data isn't entirely complete,

Captain Chadwick died on June 26 (Charnock, V, 285, who notes that many of his contemporaries give the date of death of June 9). Rear-Adm. Knowles mentions his death (but not the date) in his dispatch to Sec. of the Admiralty Thos. Corbett, August 1, 1748 (but not in his dispatch of July 4, which he said was rushed to make an immediate sailing), with the appointment of James Kirk in his stead. In any case, Chadwick was dead by the time of the Battle of Havana (Octob er 1/12), the commanding officer of /Cornwall/ at that time being Captain Polycarpus Taylor. Kirk is on a list of R.N. captains in Schomberg and in the list compiled by Rear-Adm. John Hardy (1784; probably Schomberg's source), with appointment to command of /Cornwall/ on June 23, 1748, but Charnock (VI, 77) says Kirk was appointed to /Elizabeth/, 70, another ship on the Jamaica station, on that date. (/Elizabeth/ had gone home by October.) I did not find any entry for "Kirk, James, Great Britain, 1748/07/02, naval sailor" in an earlier search on this site. Kirk's appointment does seem to have been confirmed: Charnock describes his service in command of Lynn, 44,, and America, 60, during the Seven Years' War, and agrees with Hardy that he was appointed a Victualling Commissioner in 1778. Charnock says he died in October 1787 (Hardy has no date of death).
