He worked with his father and was noticed by the Intendant of Rochefort , Colbert du Terron .
He was sent to England and Holland by Colbert to observe the construction methods and to see "if there are any differences between the size of the Dutch and ours and the reasons why".
He draws up the plans of all the buildings built in Brest during the second part of Louis XIV's reign .
