Since Marty was kind enough to post a transcription of Adm Campbells Will (too late for me as I ploughed thru the thing myself before catching sight of his reply- but he has filled in few gaps I had!!) I can provide a transcription of the Will of his brother (see query from 2019) John who was indeed a Commissioner of the Navy. Not a bad record from one family in a small parish in SW Scotland.

I'm happy to provide my transcription of his will (TNA, PROB 11/1201/64) if you'd like.

Is there a modern transcription of his Admiral Campbell's Will?

Is there a modern transcription of his Admiral Campbell's Will?

Does seem a possibility.

In the will of John Campbell in 1791 it states 'I give and bequeath to my Nephew, John Campbell, Eldest Son of of my late brother, William Campbell, all my Plate.....'

It also states 'And I appoint the said Thomas Coutts of the Strand, Banker, and the said David Pitcairn and Alexander Pitcairn, Executors of this my Will...'

I have no evidence of that

Was this John C an older brother of the mysterious Commissioner of the Navy William Campbell who married Anne Pitcairn?
