In 1867 , while leaving for Japan on the Hermione, he was called back to Saigon to take up the post of Acting Governor of Cochinchina. Indeed, Admiral de la Grandière, who fulfilled this function, fell ill and had to return to France. Acting Governor of Cochinchina from April 4, 1868 to December 10, 1869, signatory of the Treaty of the West Bank of the Mekong on August 25, 1869. ... Sick, he was forced to return to France at the beginning of 1870 .
