Can't help with career, but this page is for a royal navy officer, not a marine.

I am a direct descendant of John Drummond 1st Lieutenant of the 20th Co of Marines. We have inherited The Order of 1st Lieutenancy document (parchment) signed by King George the third, The Earl of Sandwich, Earle of Lisburne and John Fenton dated 13 October 1780. I have had trouble finding information about him. Could this John Drummond be My ancestor? This document is now held in the Battye Library in Perth Western Australia in a controlled environment and is not available to the public or even family. I am desperately hoping to find out more about him. Hoping you can help. Many thanks. Chris

John Drummond was capt. of the Dover but not the Sulphur. His death was reported to his family in Newport, Rhode Island, USA, on 2 May 1794. His wife received "letter and etc. from Mr. Duncan" on 25 June 1794 (Journal of William Engs, Newport Historical Society; Mr. Engs was father-in-law to JD.)
