William Croft was promoted Commander into the brig Vigilant in March 1804.
(From a letter to Admiral Markham from Sir John Duckworth, The LEtters of Admiral Markham, Navy Records Society vol 28. A footnote goes on to state:)
"William Croft, of the Crofts of Stillington, Yorkshire, was born April 2nd, 1782. He was a midhipman in the Centaur with Captain Markham [...] He was no employed after 1815, became a retired admiral, and died in 1871 at Stillington."
