Herbert Richmond, /The Navy in the War of 1739–48/, vol. I, p. 62, says that on February 11, 1740 (February 11, 1739 in the official British calendar; February 22, 1740, everywhere else in Europe except Sweden and Russia), the British commander-in-chief, Vice-Admiral Nicholas Haddock, left Ogle at Gibraltar in command of a squadron of 7 ships of the line, a 50, a 20, and 3 small vessels (a sloop, a bomb, and a fireship) to watch Cadiz. /Augusta/, Ogle's flagship on his way out to the Mediterranean and during his service afterwards, is not among the ships Richmond lists as part of this detachment, which Richmond says consisting of his "cleanest ships" while he took the rest for cleaning at Port Mahon. The detachment included /Lancaster/, 80, which I bet was Ogle's flagship at this time. I was hoping for confirmation here, but the site sources apparently do not cover what might have been a temporary or short-term transfer. Folow-up: According to fleet lists in Beatson and Schomberg, /Lancaster/ remained in the Mediterranean while Ogle went home and then to the West Indies.
