"Sir William Hope, Baronet [S. 1698], of Balcomie, only s. and h., suc. to the Baronetcy when under 4 years of age, 20 Nov. 1729. He was a Lieutenant B.N., 1749, being afterwards Lieutenant 31st Foot, and subsequently Captain in the East India Company's service. He m. a Dutch lady. He d. s.p., being killed at Bengal in 1763, aged about 37, when the Baronetcy became dormant, the collateral heir male being the Earl of Hopetoun [S.], who, however, and whose successors, never assumed the same. His widow m. ( — ) Lambert, and d. 1766."
