Introduction

Disastrous expedition of the Duke of Anville, commanding a squadron to retake the fortress of Louisbourg, in Acadia, which had been taken by the English in 1745.

The squadron was decimated by a Typhus epidemic and part of the fleet was dispersed by storms before arriving at Chibouctou (Halifax).
