Constantinople, 14 December 1749: The Consul at Aleppo has received a packet from Governor Wake at Bombay, with letters from Admiral Boscawen, dated the 20th of April 1749, with the most melancholy account of the loss of his Britannick Majesty’s ships the Namur, Pembroke, and Apollo hospital ship, with almost all their men, in a violent storm, which begun on the 18th of the said month in St David’s Road; the Admiral providentially was on shore. ADM 33/413 Shows the Namur to be in Sea Pay for that period, therfore also in commission as shown. Undergoing repairs do not necissarily put a ship out of commission.

The entry showing Francis Geary in command from 1745 to 1747 is of course entirely incorrect. In fact, from APR-1745 Namur was being rebuilt/razeed to a 74, and upon recommissioning in January 1747 was commanded continuously by Boscawen as CAPT or Wellard or Marshall as flag captains when Boscawen was either officially a COMM or had been promoted to RADM. Namur's captain's journal very clearly confirms this.
The frontispiece reads: "Namur's Journal Hon. Edward Boscawen Commander between the {11th of September 1746 and the 16th of July 1747."}
